My current writing project is the adaptation for young readers of Ned Blackhawk’s deep, broad, and important history of Native America. The Rediscovery of America: Native Peoples and the Unmaking of US History won the National Book Award for nonfiction. Being chosen to write the adaptation of this brilliant work was a huge honor. While doing so, I learned more than I could have expected.
The book is in production now and will be published by Triangle Square, an imprint of Seven Stories Press, in the fall of 2026. Already, though, it has a cover–one of the many extraordinary drawings from the Plains peoples who illustrated their lives and created lasting visual art in accounting ledgers.
