–My next book is an adaptation for young readers of Ned Blackhawk’s award-winning history The Rediscovery of America: Native Peoples and the Unmaking of US History.<\/em> Look for it in Fall 2026. Cover reveal and more details here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n –My two most recent books were published in February and March of 2025. The Six, <\/em>a middle-grade version of Loren Grush’s bestseller about the first US women in space, earned multiple starred reviews. I posted about it here<\/a> and here<\/a>. Super Navigators<\/em> is a beautifully illustrated account of what science can tell us about how animals find their way in the world. I posted about it here<\/a> and here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n –The revised and updated edition of A Young People’s History of the United States,<\/em> which I adapted for young readers from the work of historian Howard Zinn, was published in early 2023. As of June 2025, it was #1 in Teen & Young Adult Civil and Human Rights, #2 in Teen & Young Adult 19th Century US History, and #3 in Teen & Young Adult Nonfiction on Prejudice, on Amazon. I posted about it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n –I’ve published a LOT of nonfiction books for young readers, as well as some fiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n –Favorite fiction reading: horror, science fiction, fantasy. Nonfiction: travel, exploration, natural history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n –Favorite places visited so far: Tibet, Iceland, Laos, Corsica, Bulgaria, Istanbul, Uruguay, Patagonia, Costa Rica. I also love traveling around my home state. Oregon has it all: glorious Pacific coast, forested mountain chain, and high-desert interior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n –I love clouds, rain, short days, and general gloom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Hello there.
